Stephanie Houghton is an English professional footballer who currently plays for Manchester City in the Women’s Super League and for England’s women’s national team. Houghton began her club career in her hometown of Sunderland before moving on to Leeds United in 2007 and Arsenal Ladies in 2010.

Houghton started her career at Sunderland, where she spent five years. In 2005-06, she helped Sunderland achieve promotion from the Northern Division, and in 2006-07, she was named the FA Young Player of the Year.
Houghton became the first female player to be on the cover of Shoot magazine in October 2014.
Houghton was awarded the Freedom of the City of Sunderland in March 2023; at the ceremony, the Sunderland Echo inquired how to pronounce her surname.
