English professional football player Stephanie Houghton competes for both the England women’s national team and the Women’s Super League club Manchester City. Houghton began her club career at Sunderland in her native North East England before moving on to Leeds United in 2007 and Arsenal Ladies in 2010.

Houghton played for Sunderland for her first five years in the game. In 2005–2006, she assisted Sunderland in getting promoted from the Northern Division, and in 2006–2007, she took home the FA Young Player of the Year Award.
Houghton was the first female athlete to grace the cover of Shoot magazine in October 2014.

Houghton is married to former Bradford City defender Stephen Darby. They married on 21 June 2018.
On 18 September 2018, Darby announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 29 after being diagnosed with motor neuron disease.
