Stanley Meyer died unexpectedly in a restaurant on March 20, 1998. Meyer allegedly stormed away during a meeting with two Belgian investors in a restaurant, screaming, “They poisoned me,” according to his brother. Meyer died of a cerebral aneurysm due to high blood pressure, according to the Franklin County coroner’s report, after an investigation.

Meyer’s supporters believe he was assassinated to silence his inventions. One of the Belgian investors, Philippe Vandemoortele, indicated that he has been financially supporting Meyer for several years and considers him a personal friend and that he has no idea where the rumours came from.

Meyer believed that water propulsion was the best method to break free from oil dependence. He developed a fuel cell based on the principle of splitting water atoms into their constituent forms, burning hydrogen to generate energy, and then expelling oxygen and water residues through the exhaust pipe, resulting in harmless emissions.
After a few months of development, he was able to place his water-powered engine on a dune buggy that was painted with the words “water-powered automobile”
