Long-serving teacher, mentor and the first principal of Reagan High School when it opened in 2005, Stan Elrod passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 25, as per several news outlets.

What was Stan Elrod’s cause of death? The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

At the time of his death, he was a candidate for the Forsyth County Board of Education.

WS/FCS Superintendent Tricia McManus released a statement on Elrod’s passing and his career:

“Stan Elrod had a long and well-respected career with WS/FCS.

“While I never worked directly with Stan, he is someone I grew to know quickly because of his consistent devotion to our district and community.

“He gave his life to education and service to others. He touched countless lives in positive ways as a coach, teacher, principal, and district leader.

“The news of his sudden passing is shocking and saddening to so many in our district and community as Stan was a kind, beloved individual.

“His love of students will live on in the hearts of the many he touched. He will be sorely missed.”

The Forsyth County resident, who died at his home, was the first principal of Reagan High School when it opened. He retired in 2010.

He was a part of Forsyth County Education for more than thirty years.

A Republican, Elrod was running for a seat on the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education, being one of the five candidates in District 2.
