Authorities said at least six adults were injured in a shooting on a school campus in Oakland on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 with at least some of the victims discovered inside the school.

The shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. Authorities said the incident occurred at Rudsdale Newcomer High School.
According to the school’s website, the school serves recent immigrants ages 16 to 21 who have fled violence and instability in their home countries.
It is one of four schools on a single block in east Oakland. Officials have not stated whether any of the victims were students aged 18 and up.

“The victims were affiliated with the school, and we are determining the affiliation at this time,” Oakland Assistant Police Chief Darren Allison said, declining to say whether the victims were students at the school.

Three of the injured were taken to Oakland’s Highland Hospital, while the other three were taken to Castro Valley’s Eden Medical Center.
