Steve Mafi, a Western Australian native and a graduate of Westfields Sports High School, is a representative of Tonga at the international level after being granted ancestral status. The former Tonga captain’s grandson is named Sione Mafi Pahulu.

With the Leicester Tigers in 2011–12, he made his significant breakthrough. Although the huge man scored tries in the LV= Cup and English Premiership finals, he was unexpectedly left off of the Tongan 2011 World Cup roster. Mafi left Leicester and went back to Australia to sign a contract with the Western Force in Super Rugby.
