Sheryl Lee Ralph is a well-known actress, singer, and advocate who has had a successful career in the entertainment industry.

Sheryl Lee Ralph was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of college professor Stanley Ralph and Jamaican fashion designer Ivy Ralph O.D., who invented the Kariba suit.

Sheryl Lee Ralph grew up in Mandeville, Jamaica, and Long Island. Sheryl received her diploma in 1972. She had previously been crowned Miss Black Teenage New York.

Sheryl Lee Ralph was the youngest woman to graduate from Rutgers University at the age of 19; while at Rutgers, she was one of the first recipients of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival’s Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship.

Sheryl Lee Ralph is best known for her role as Dee Mitchell on the popular UPN series “Moesha” which ran from 1996 to 2001. Ralph’s breakout role on “Moesha” brought her recognition and critical acclaim.

Beyond acting, Ralph is also a passionate advocate for various social and political causes, specifically young women of colour.

Sheryl Lee Ralph is the founder and executive director of the Diva Foundation, a non-profit organization that works to empower and educate young women of colour through mentorship programs, scholarship opportunities, and other initiatives.
