Born on December 6, 1945, Shekhar Kapur attended Modern School of New Delhi. He also studied economics at St. Stephen’s College. He became a Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW in England when he was just 22 years old.

He started his career working with a multinational oil company after school. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1970 and spent several years working as an accountant and management consultant.
