Beginning her journey as an illustrator, Trpcic quickly made a name for herself in the world of science fiction. Her collaborations extended to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, where her impeccable designs for “The Mandalorian” seasons two and three, and “The Book of Boba Fett” earned her an Emmy nomination. Her most recent masterpiece was seen in “Ahsoka.”

Lucasfilm, in their homage to Trpcic, highlighted her extensive knowledge, stating, “Trpcic was often regarded as a Star Wars scholar by her colleagues. Her in-depth research, comprising every behind-the-scenes book available, aided her in understanding the evolving techniques used across different cinematic periods.”

Filoni expressed his admiration saying, “Shawna’s profound love for Star Wars reflected in every project she undertook. Each design she contributed was a testament to her dedication and passion for storytelling. Her designs narrated a backstory, hinting at a character’s past even before a scene unfolded. It has been a pleasure to work alongside Shawna, and her absence will be deeply felt.

The Costume Designer’s Guild confirmed Trpcic’s sudden departure. An Instagram post by the guild read, “It is with profound grief that we announce the unexpected passing of the multi-Emmy nominated and CDG Award-winning costume designer, Shawna Trpcic. Recognized as one of the leading figures in science fiction costume design, she was not only an inventive force but also a cherished partner and friend to many. Her legacy will forever remain etched in the hearts of the Star Wars/Lucasfilm community and the broader circle of costume designers within our guild.
