Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the renowned Canadian-Pakistani journalist, filmmaker, and political activist, has been a prominent figure in shedding light on gender inequality against women through her impactful films.

Born on November 12, 1978, in Karachi, Pakistan, Sharmeen is the daughter of Sheikh Obaid and Saba Obaid. Her father, Sheikh Obaid, is recognized as a businessman, while her mother, Saba Obaid, has made significant contributions as a social worker.

Sharmeen’s upbringing in a family that values both business and social service likely played a role in shaping her commitment to addressing societal issues through her work.

The couple has been married since 2007, and Fahd Kamal Chinoy is the Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Cables Ltd. Sharmeen’s journey has seen her become a Canadian citizen in 2004, reflecting her global perspective and engagement in issues beyond national borders.
