He is the son of Karen Wallace, Robert van Gisbergen. His father is a former rally racer who most likely helped launch his son’s career when he purchased an ATV for Shane when he was only five years old.

Van Gisbergen is the fourth most successful racing driver in Supercars Championship history, with three titles (2016, 2021, and 2022), 80 victories, and 46 pole positions. He won the Bathurst 1000 in 2020 and 2022, both times with Garth Tander.
