Shaka Smart is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head coach of the Marquette Golden Eagles men’s basketball team.

Marquette does make salaries public, but according to a 2022 Briefly salary article, Shaka Smart makes $3 million a year.
After college, Smart began his coaching career as an assistant at the California University of Pennsylvania.
He then served as an assistant coach at Clemson University, the University of Akron, and the University of Florida before being named the head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2009.

Shaka Smart gained national attention during his six-year tenure at VCU, leading the team to five consecutive postseason appearances, including a run to the Final Four in 2011.
In 2015, Smart left VCU to become the head coach at the University of Texas at Austin. In his first season at Texas, he led the Longhorns to a 20-13 record and a sixth-seed in the NCAA tournament, surpassing “all realistic expectations,” according to the Houston Chronicle.
In March 2021, he was named the head coach at Marquette University, where he has since been coaching.
