After making his first-team debut at the age of 17, he spent the most of his career with Porto, playing in 174 competitive games and winning three Primeira Liga titles, three Taça de Portugal championships, and two Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira titles.

Additionally, he was loaned to Beira-Mar, Mechelen, Penafiel, Nantes, PAOK, and Roma. With PAOK, he won a second double in the 2018–19 season, and with Roma, he won the Europa Conference League in 2022. He also represented Paços de Ferreira in the premier league of Portugal.
