Faye’s visit to Ghana, following a trip to Nigeria, aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and express gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for attending his inauguration in Dakar last April.

In January 2024, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso withdrew from ECOWAS after being suspended due to military coups in all three nations. They cited the organization’s departure from its founding ideals and Pan-Africanism as reasons for their sovereign decision.
