Cecilia Morel Montes, the esteemed widow of former Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, has long been recognized as a figure of grace and resilience in Chilean society.

Following the tragic passing of her husband in a helicopter crash on February 6, 2024, Morel’s steadfast strength and unwavering dedication to her family and country have earned her the admiration of many.

Born María Cecilia Morel Montes, she became the cherished companion of Sebastián Piñera after their marriage in 1973. Their love story began in Santiago, where they were neighbors on Avenida Américo Vespucio.

Over the years, their bond blossomed, and they welcomed four children into their lives, born in 1975, 1978, 1982, and 1984, respectively. Each of their children has gone on to achieve remarkable success, obtaining university degrees that underscore the family’s commitment to education and excellence.

One of the highlights of Cecilia Morel’s tenure as Chile’s First Lady was her accompanying her husband on a state visit to Spain in March 2011.

During this visit, President Piñera was honored with the prestigious rank of Collar of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, while Cecilia Morel was granted the esteemed title of Dame Grand Cross of the same order, symbolizing their enduring contributions to Chilean-Spanish relations and their commitment to diplomacy and cooperation.
