Who Is Sean McDonough?

Sean McDonough is a sportscaster, who works for the ESPN and WEEI Red Sox Radio Network.

Born on May 13, 1962, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Boston Globe sportswriter Will McDonough, Sean earned his first degree in broadcast journalism, from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications of Syracuse University.

Upon graduation, he worked briefly at the Enterprise Radio Network in 1981.

At the beginning of his career, Sean worked as a play-by-play announcer for the Syracuse Chiefs of the International League, an Ivy League football announcer for PBS, and a sideline reporter for another two years.

So far, he has worked for ABC, ESPN, Boston Red Sox and CBS as lead baseball announcer.

In 2021, Sean was made lead play-by-play voice for the NHL coverage, ahead of the 2021–22 season by the ESPN and ABC.

Sean who has worked in the NBC for 16 years, holds an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Southern Vermont College, and was inducted into the WAER Hall of Fame in 2014.

In 2016, the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications honored him with the 4th annual Marty Glickman Award.
