He played for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1996 to 2002, the St. Louis Cardinals from 2002 to 2007, the Toronto Blue Jays from 2008 to 2009, and the Cincinnati Reds from 2009 to 2012. He is currently a free agent as of 2013. Scott Rolen has been named to the All-Star team seven times: in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, and 2011.

In 2006, he was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, who won the World Series. Scott Rolen has won the Gold Glove Award eight times, in 1998, 2000-2004, 2006, and 2010. He also earned the Silver Slugger Award in 2002.

Rolen established The Enis Furley Foundation in 1999 with the intention of assisting children and families dealing with illness, hardship, or other unique needs.
