Her death was deemed an accident after an autopsy on February 24, 2014, indicated “many injuries sustained as a pedestrian struck by a railroad train while at work on a movie location.”
Jones was allegedly struck on her right side by a railroad train while working on-site for a film shoot and died as a pedestrian. Both of her feet were severed, and she suffered numerous other injuries, including lacerations and fractures.
The crew was shooting a dream sequence on railroad tracks in Wayne County, Georgia at the time of the ‘Midnight Rider’ train catastrophe.

When the team was surprised by an impending train, a bed had been placed onto the tracks as part of the scenery and could not be relocated quickly enough. The train’s collision with the bed knocked Jones into the tracks, where she was killed.
The film’s director, Randall Miller, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass. The same accusations against producer Jody Savin were dropped as part of his plea agreement. Miller was sentenced to two years in prison and eight years of probation, as well as a $20,000 fine.
