Sarah Ford and Michael Johnson are parents to the late Dr. Samuel Johnson. They had their late son on September 18, 1709, in Lichfield, United Kingdom. Michael Johnson was a local bookseller and also a town sheriff.
Their son was born when Sarah Ford was 40 years and hence, there were complications regarding his birth, which made his family believe that he may not survive. However, he made it alive. Samuel Johnson had a brother called Nathaniel.
Dr. Samuel Johnson’s family was in serious debt which motivated Samuel Johnson to stick to his bookshop and work harder. They lived in poverty until his mother’s cousin Elizabeth Harriott died in February 1728 and left a huge amount of money to send Samuel Johnson to university.
