Chung was born in Abingdon-on-Thames to a Chinese father and English mother and began his career with local side Abingdon Town and then Southern League side Headington United.

Did Sammy Chung have kids? There’s no information on Chung’s children on the internet. However, according to Tonclass, Sammy Chung had, at least, a son known as Timmy Chung.

Tonclass further said Timmy went to the Royal Wolverhampton School in the middle to late Seventies.

Chung arrived at Vicarage Road via Norwich City in summer 1957, and went on to be an integral and versatile part of the team which won Watford’s first promotion in the 1959/60 season – appearing at left-half regularly alongside team-mate Vince McNeice, who also died recently.

Watford paid tribute to Chun, writing;

Chung’s eight years with Watford were very successful and encompassed him playing in a variety of positions – most notably across the half-back line but also in attack as well when duty called.

By 1962, at the age of just 30 and testament to not only his playing versatility but his eye for the game in general, he’d been appointed player-coach by manager Bill McGarry, and the pair solidified their manager-trainer relationship after Chung’s final league football at Vicarage Road in 1965.

Chung played 242 times for the Hornets across the third and fourth tiers of the English game and scored 24 times.

Wolves wrote;

Chung passed away peacefully in his sleep, following a long illness. The thoughts of everyone at Wolves are with Sammy’s family and friends at this sad time.

    Sammy Chung had, at least, a son, as I went to school with him. His name was Timmy Chung. He went to the Royal Wolverhampton School in the middle to late Seventies. We were all privileged to get the Molineux guided tour and meet the players like John Richards, Derek Dougan et al.
