Sam McCarty Workman II, who was born in Kingsville on June 7, 1967, died at the age of 55 in Beeville, Texas. On Monday, February 6, 2023, he passed away with his loved ones by his side. After Sam graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1985, he pursued his passion of becoming a professional golf caddie.

In high school, baseball was his preferred sport, but when he was six years old, he began playing golf with his father and grandfather. He decided to become a professional caddie after playing golf for one year in junior college and worked, taught, and played for 15 years.

After getting a call from Brad Elder to work a qualifier in San Antonio, he later joined the tour as a caddie. Sam and Brad played together for several years on two different occasions, and their Friday 68 and successful cut in the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay stood out.

Sam was characterized by Brad as a devoted individual who constantly promoted others. Sam also assisted another player in making it to the PGA Tour. He then hooked up with New Zealander Steven Alker, with whom he struggled through the pandemic and the ups and downs of the golfing world until Steven aged 50 and was just outside the PGA Tour Champions.
