Sam Hilliard is an American professional baseball player for the Major League Baseball (MLB) Atlanta Braves. Sam Hilliard is the son of Jim and Tamara Hilliard.

Jim Hilliard, his father, was a Texas Longhorns football player and an orthopaedic surgeon for 35 years. Jim Hilliard was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in March 2018.

Hillard’s mother, Tamara Hext, is a Texas beauty queen who has competed in Miss America. She won Miss Texas 1984 after competing as Miss Arlington in the pageant.
That same year, she was a finalist in the nationally televised Miss America pageant, finishing as the fourth runner-up. Tamara went to Vidor High School. Tamara Hext was a film actress as well. Hext appeared as a co-star in the horror film “Through the Fire” (1988).

Sam Hillard’s father Jim passed away on September 12 2021. The family chose to share their story, creating Team Hilliard to raise awareness and funds to research ALS. Sam Hilliard and his teammates regularly wear their foundation’s ‘strike out ALS’ shirts during batting practice and share their posts on social media.
