Sally Ride Cause of Death: How did Sally Ride Die?

Sally Ride, the pioneering American astronaut, passed away on July 23, 2012, at the age of 61.

She died from pancreatic cancer. Sally Ride was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2011, and despite receiving treatment, the disease eventually took her life.

Her ashes were placed alongside those of her father at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Santa Monica after she was cremated. Her papers are housed in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum Archives.

Sally Ride got various honours throughout her lifetime and after. She earned the National Space Society’s von Braun Award, the Charles A. Lindbergh Fund’s Lindbergh Eagle, and the NCAA’s Theodore Roosevelt Award.

She was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame, the Astronaut Hall of Fame, and twice received the NASA Space Flight Medal.

A satellite named after Ride (uSat 27 or “Sally”, COSPAR 2022-033R) was launched into space as part of the Satellogic Aleph-1 constellation on April 1, 2022. In her honour, the Cygnus spacecraft utilised for the NG-18 mission was dubbed the S.S. Sally Ride. It successfully launched on November 7, 2022.
