Sal Bando was a Major League Baseball third baseman and general manager. Sal Bando and his wife Sandy Bando were parents of three sons; Sal Jr., Sonny and Stef Bando.

From 2001 to 2008, Sal Bando’s son Sal Bando, Jr., was the head baseball coach at High Point University.
Bando Jr. has been the head baseball coach at Marquette University High School since 2010, where he led the team to two straight state championship appearances in his first two seasons.
Sal Bando died on Friday, January 20, 2023, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. According to his family, he had been battling cancer for the previous five years.

He is best known for his eleven seasons with the Oakland Athletics, where he rose to prominence as the captain of the dynasty that won three consecutive World Series championships from 1972 to 1974.
Bando finished second to teammate Vida Blue for the 1971 American League (AL) Most Valuable Player Award after helping lead the team to the first of five straight division titles. He retired after the 1981 season.
