Ryuichi Sakamoto Cause of Death

Japanese composer, Ryuichi Sakamoto has been reported dead. He died after several years of battling several forms of cancer. In 2014, he revealed that he was diagnosed with throat cancer. he also shared in 2022 that he had terminal cancer just a year after disclosing that he was suffering from rectal cancer. He was 71 years old at the time of death.

According to a statement issued by Japanese record label, Avex, Sakamoto was undergoing treatment when he died. His death occurred on March 28, 2023, but made the news on April 2, 2023.

He was one of the most recognized and talented Japanese composers to make an international impact. He was an Oscar and Grammy award winner thanks to the 1987 movie The Last Emperor.

Even though he was battling cancer in his last days, he managed to release an album on his 71st birthday in January 2023, dubbed 12.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Ryuichi Sakamoto. He was a trailblazing composer and producer who scored films such as the “Last Emperor” and “The Revenant” to name a few. He was a pioneer of electric pop music by founding the “Yellow Magic Orchestra” which produced hits on synthesizers and sequencers in the 70s and 80s. He will be missed,” entertainment company  KORG USA wrote.

“Rest in peace, Ryuichi Sakamoto. Thank you for the music all these years. Thank you for the wonderful memories through your music. Our world is poorer,” a tweet named Queen Dina also wrote.

“I often think of this beautiful conversation I was lucky enough to have with Ryuichi Sakamoto a few years ago. I learned from it then, and it’s still teaching me things,” Brandon Stosuy also wrote.

“People are going to be sharing plenty of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s wonderful music, as they should, but I think a simple yet masterful jingle he composed sums up his digital genius. Thank you, Sakamoto,” Kung Fu Carlito wrote.

“Ryuichi Sakamoto 1952-2023. We will miss you on this side of life. A void is left that I cannot fully grasp at the moment. Our deepest condolences to those who were closest to him,” German artiste, Alva Noto also shared.
