Ryan Kerrigan Retirement: Did Ryan Kerrigan retire?

Ryan Kerrigan, the Washington Commanders’ all-time sacks leader, officially retired after 11 NFL seasons on July 29 2022.

Ryan signed a one-day contract with the Washington Commanders to retire as a member of the burgundy and gold.

“While I’m thankful for the amazing times and memories I was able to have as a player, I’m equally thankful for now having the wisdom and courage to walk away,” Kerrigan said in a statement. “We all eventually come to the end of our playing days, and that time is now for me.”

Kerrigan, who was drafted by Washington at No. 16 in the 2011 NFL Draft, played for the team for ten seasons.

He had 95.5 sacks, a franchise record he broke in his final season with Washington in ’20, passing Dexter Manley. Kerrigan was also the NFL’s co-leader in forced fumbles in 2014, with five.

Ryan famously scored the game-winning touchdown in his rookie debut, taking an Eli Manning interception to the house in a 28-14 victory over the New York Giants. He was named to four Pro Bowls in his career, the first in his second season.
