In addition to serving in the North Dakota legislature, Rosemarie Myrdal was involved in other state and local public service positions.
Informally, during a Republican gathering at a retreat center along the Missouri River in the late 1980s, Ed Schafer met Rosemarie Myrdal for the first time.

Additionally, Myrdal worked as a legislative liaison for Schafer’s office because she represented a district that contained her family’s farm close to Edinburg when serving in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1985 to 1992.
