Rosemarie Myrdal, a member of the North Dakota Republican Party, was elected governor of North Dakota in 1992 and later served as the state’s 35th lieutenant governor from 1993 to 2001. She died on October 11, 2023. From 1985 to 1992, she also served in the North Dakota House of Representatives. Myrdal has five kids and was widowed.

The governor of North Dakota, Doug Burgum, referred to Myrdal in a statement as “a tireless advocate for the citizens of our state and a champion for children, education, and agriculture.” He commended her for her prior work on the school board and her involvement with groups that promoted conservation, historical preservation, and other issues.

Myrdal passed away on Wednesday night in Grafton from old age, according to her daughter-in-law, state senator Janne Myrdal. The governor of North Dakota, Doug Burgum, referred to Myrdal in a statement as “a tireless advocate for the citizens of our state and a champion for children, education, and agriculture.” He commended her for her prior work on the school board and her involvement with groups that promoted conservation, historical preservation, and other issues.
