Rosalind Wiener Wyman Obituary

Rosalind Wyman was an American politician, Los Angeles City Councilmember, and Democratic political figure in California.

Rosalind Wiener was born in Los Angeles on October 4, 1930. Rosalind graduated in 1948 and went on to study at the University of Southern California.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in public administration from USC in 1952

She worked as a recreation director after college and planned to attend law school, but before she could start, she was elected to the City Council in 1953.

She was the youngest person ever elected to the Los Angeles City Council at the age of 22, and only the second woman to do so. Her City Council term lasted 12 years, and she represented the city’s Fifth District.

Wyman was instrumental in relocating the Brooklyn Dodgers from New York to Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles.

Rosalind Wyman served on the UNESCO Commission and boards ranging from the National Endowment for the Arts to the Los Angeles County Arts Commission to the American Friends of the Hebrew University Board.

Rosalind Wyman died late Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at her home in Bel-Air, according to her family. She was 92 years old.
