Ronnie Radford Obituary

Ronnie Radford was a footballer from England. Radford was born in South Elmsall, West Riding of Yorkshire.

Ronnie began his football career with Sheffield Wednesday and later Leeds United, but he never made a first-team appearance for either club.

Radford rose to prominence after scoring a brilliant 30-yard goal in Hereford United’s famous 2-1 FA Cup win over Newcastle United in 1971/72.

It is widely regarded as one of the most significant giant killings in the competition’s history.

Radford remained at Hereford until July 1974, when he left to become a player-manager at Worcester City.

He later played for Bath City and Forest Green Rovers before retiring due to an Achilles tendon injury. He returned to Yorkshire to continue his work as a carpenter and joiner, having previously played part-time football.

Ronnie Radford died on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the age of 79. A statement from Hereford on Wednesday afternoon read: “We are devastated to hear of Ronnie’s passing, and wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this very sad time.
