Ronnie Radford, who scored one of the FA Cup’s most iconic goals, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the age of 79.

A statement from Hereford on Wednesday afternoon read: “We are devastated to hear of Ronnie’s passing, and wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this very sad time. Ronnie is not just a part of Hereford United folklore, he is a part of football history and has kept Hereford on the football map since 1972.
Radford rose to prominence after scoring a brilliant 30-yard goal in Hereford United’s famous 2-1 FA Cup win over Newcastle United in 1971/72.
It is widely regarded as one of the most significant giant killings in the competition’s history.

The goal came in an FA Cup third-round replay after Hereford had held Newcastle to a 2-2 draw at St James’ Park.
Newcastle took the lead through Malcolm Macdonald’s header, but Radford responded with a long-range effort that forced extra time and allowed Ricky George to seal the win for the non-league side.
He moved back to Yorkshire after retiring to continue his work as a carpenter and joiner, having been a part-time footballer for much of his career.
