Roel Degamo was ambushed at his home in Pamplona, Negros Oriental, on March 4, 2023, at approximately 9:36 a.m. by unidentified men.
According to the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas, he was ambushed while distributing aid to local Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries.

Roel Degamo was rushed to Dumaguete’s Silliman University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:41 a.m., according to his wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo.

“Governor Degamo does not deserve that kind of death. He was serving his constituents on a Saturday along with his department heads.”
“Five others died with him who were there to ask for help,” Mayor Janice Degamo. said, calling on the national government to bring justice to their family.”
In a statement on Saturday, March 4 2023, afternoon, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. condemned the “dastardly and heinous crime,” saying his government will not rest until the suspects were brought to justice.
