Robyn Broughton children: Meet her daughter Kirsty Carline

In a statement this morning, Netball NZ paid tribute to Broughton, who is most known for the domestic dominance the Southern Sting achieved between 1998 and 2007 while she was in charge of the team.

Broughton, a Lower Hutt native who was designated a non-traveling reserve for New Zealand the year before, moved south to the University of Otago in 1961 to pursue a diploma in physical education. By this time, her reputation as a good netball player had already become well-established.

She played for Hutt Valley, Otago, and Southland while captaining the latter two provinces during her playing career. She served as the leader of the Otago and New Zealand Universities.

Broughton coached the Sting for 100 games during a time when they were unbeatable, delivering an astonishing 82 percent victory rate—14 percent higher than any other coach.

Broughton was a devoted woman. Kirsty Carline was the name of her daughter.

She was viewed as a family by both her former teammates and the authorities. Over the years, Broughton became close with the Sting as a result of her coaching success.
