Robert Brockman, best known for building a multibillion-dollar fortune as a software entrepreneur and investor before he was indicted in a landmark tax-evasion case, has died. He died at the age 81.

He was charged in October 2020 with running a $2 billion tax evasion scheme.
Brockman suffered from dementia, and his attorneys had repeatedly argued that he wasn’t competent to stand trial.
Despite the dementia, a judge ruled in May that the trial would go forward and at a June hearing, the judge set the trial date for February 2023, with Brockman appearing at the hearing via video link from his bed.

Brockman’s attorney, Kathy Keneally, confirmed on August 6, 2022 that his client [Brockman] died the previous day.
Brockman died at his home in Houston and prior to his death, he had been diagnosed with dementia.
