Robert S. Bennett: Lead counsel to President Bill Clinton dead at 84

American lawyer Robert Stephen Bennett, senior counsel of Bennett LoCicero & Liu LLP, lived from August 2, 1939 to September 10, 2023. In the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, he is best remembered for having defended President Bill Clinton.

He worked as Howard Francis Corcoran’s clerk for the District of Columbia’s U.S. District Court from 1965 to 1967. Bennett worked as the District of Columbia’s assistant US attorney upon his graduation from law school.

He then moved on to work in the litigation department at Hogan & Hartson. After that, he joined the Skadden law firm in Washington, D.C., as a partner. Bennett made his intention to join Hogan & Hartson again public in September 2009.

According to his daughter Peggy Bennett, kidney failure was the cause. Most notably, Mr. Bennett was the lawyer for President Bill Clinton when he was in hot water for fabricating an affair with Monica Lewinsky, a young intern in the White House.
