His role as senior counsel at Bennett LoCicero & Liu LLP and his representation of President Bill Clinton during the Clinton-Lewinsky crisis helped him maintain his notoriety.

The litigation section of Hogan & Hartson was his next stop after that. He later joined the Skadden law firm in Washington, D.C. as a partner. Bennett announced his return to Hogan & Hartson in September 2009. Bennett initially agreed to defend Megaupload on January 20, 2012, but two days later he withdrew owing to a conflict of interest with another client.
