Robert I. Toll was the co-founder of the American luxury homebuilder company Toll Brothers. Robert I. Toll was worth 1.1 billion USD at the time of his death.

Toll and his brother Bruce E. Toll founded Toll Brothers in 1967 with a focus on building luxury homes ($500,000+), beginning with a plot of land given to them by their father in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Toll Brothers is now one of the leading builders of luxury suburban and retirement communities in 19 states, including California, Florida, and New York, with a $6.8 billion market capitalization.

In November 2013, Toll Brothers purchased Shapell Homes (founded by Nathan Shapell) for $1.6 billion

Toll served on the University of Pennsylvania Law School’s Board of Overseers and as a trustee of the University of Pennsylvania, where he established the Albert & Sylvia Toll Scholarship Foundation, named after his parents.

He was named the “Best CEO in the Homebuilders & Building Products Industry” by Institutional Investor magazine in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Mr Toll died at his home in New York, on Friday, October 7, 2022, according to the Fort Washington, Pa.-based company. He was 81 years old and had Parkinson’s disease.
