Robert Kyoung Hur is an American lawyer who served as the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland from 2018 to 2021. He previously served as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Hur was born in New York City to South Korean parents, Dr. Young Hur, an anesthesiologist, and Haesook Hur, who works for Young as his office manager. Hur studied English and American literature at Harvard University, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, with high honors.

When Robert Hur was appointed in January 2023 to oversee the politically delicate investigation into US President Joe Biden’s handling of classified information, US attorney-general Merrick Garland hailed his “long and distinguished career as a prosecutor”. Dick Durbin, the Democratic chair of the Senate judiciary committee, also praised him as “distinguished”.
Hur came to the job with a sterling legal pedigree.
