She is the first female head coach in Major League Baseball history, the first to coach on the field during a game, the first to coach a Nakken’s team, and the first to provide contact information. When she was a student at California State University, Sacramento, she played first base for the Sacramento State Hornets.

When she was selected as an assistant to the San Francisco Giants’ new manager, Gabe Kapler, in January 2020, Alyssa Nakken made baseball history as the first female coach on a big-league staff. She was a four-year All-Pacific Coast Softball Conference selection from 2009 to 2012, as well as the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012. She was also a three-time all-conference selection during that time.
