Pilatus gained fame as one-half of the pop duo Milli Vanilli, alongside Fab Morvan. The duo achieved considerable success in the late 1980s but faced controversy when it was revealed that they did not perform the vocals on their recordings.
Tragically, Pilatus’s life took a tragic turn on April 3, 1998, on the eve of a planned promotional tour for a new Milli Vanilli album titled “Back and in Attack.” Pilatus was found dead in a hotel room at Friedrichsdorf, near Frankfurt.

The cause of death was determined to be an overdose involving alcohol and prescription drugs, and it was ruled accidental. The album, which was supposed to mark a comeback for Milli Vanilli, was never released.
