Robert D. Manfred Jr. is an American lawyer and business executive serving as the tenth commissioner of Major League Baseball. He previously served as MLB’s chief operating officer. Manfred succeeded Bud Selig as a commissioner on January 25, 2015.

He joined MLB full-time in 1998, serving as the Executive Vice President of Economics and League Affairs.
At the end of the 2013 season, Commissioner of Baseball Bud Selig promoted Manfred to a chief operating officer of MLB.
On March 10, Manfred and the league put the possibility of a 162-game season on the table if a deal could be met soon thereafter. That evening, the players’ union accepted an MLB proposal that allowed the two sides to explore the international draft idea and come to a decision on it by July 2022.

Manfred and his wife, Colleen, have four children; Megan, Michael, Jane and Mary Clare.
Their son Michael Manfred is the managing director and head of capital markets at CBAM. He graduated from Wake Forest University and married Ashley Manfred, an interior designer, in 2013.
Their daughter, Megan Manfred, earned her doctorate from New York University and is now head of the commercial at Via. She is married to Cartel Solutions chief executive Timothy Petrella.
Jane Manfred is married to Michael Quagliano, director of national retail sales at Keurig Dr Pepper. They have two children, Quinn Quagliano and George Quagliano, who are the grandchildren of Rob and Colleen.
Rob and Colleen’s youngest daughter, Mary Clare Manfred, graduated from Colgate University. She tied the knot with Charles Murphy in 2021.
