Rita Hollingsworth, a highly esteemed publicist and communications strategist renowned for her work with luminaries such as Barbra Streisand, Robert Altman, Chen Kaige, the Carousel of Hope, and St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, passed away at the age of 61. Her husband of 37 years, Jeff Hollingsworth, revealed that she died on November 16 from an intracerebral brain hemorrhage at Keck Hospital of USC. The couple had jointly established RMH Media in 1996.

Hollingsworth’s career took root at The Lee Solters Co., where she worked with notable clients like Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Michael Jackson, Neil Diamond, Barbara Davis’ Carousel of Hope, and the Race to Erase MS.

Upon founding RMH Media, she played a pivotal role in garnering significant attention for films at major festivals and markets. Some notable projects included Alan Rudolph’s “Afterglow” (1997), Altman’s “Cookie’s Fortune” (1999), Michael Radford’s “Dancing at the Blue Iguana” (2000), and Chen’s “Caught in the Web” (2012) and “Legend of the Demon Cat” (2017).

RMH also represented Reyna Grande, a New York Times best-selling author.

Currently, RMH is collaborating with filmmaker Matthew Solomon on the documentary “Reimagining Safety” and is involved with producer Catherine Gray and actress Sharon Gless on their documentary “Show Her the Money,” set to embark on a 50-city tour after winning awards at festivals this year.

Born in East Los Angeles in 1962 and raised in nearby Whittier, Rita Maria Hollingsworth earned her bachelor’s degree from Whittier College and later pursued a double master’s degree in Japanese language and diplomacy from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.
