Richard Arthur Woolcott, AC, an author, and commentator from Australia, was born on June 11, 1927. Woolcott graduated from the University of Melbourne, the Cranbrook School, and Geelong Grammar School before joining the Australian Diplomatic Service.

As well as serving as Australia’s High Commissioner in Malaysia, Ghana, and Singapore, he served as Australia’s ambassador to Indonesia and the Philippines. From 1982 to 1988, he served as Australia’s ambassador to the UN.

In November 1985, he presided over the UN Security Council as Australia’s representative.

Richard Woolcott Children: Meet Peter Woolcott
The son of former Australian diplomat and public servant Richard Woolcott, Woolcott was born in West Berlin in 1953. He lived in Moscow from October 1953 to May 1954 while his father served as the Third Secretary of the Australian Embassy there.
Peter Woolcott earned a Master of Arts from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in addition to his Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the Australian National University.
Supporting the Australian Republican Movement, Richard Woolcott delivered the inaugural National Republican Lecture in 2003.
His father, Richard Woolcott, was chosen as one of the first fellows of the Australian Institute of International Affairs in July 2008 to recognize his extremely high degree of distinction and notable contribution to Australia’s foreign policy.
