Feynman, who was born on May 11, 1918, helped create the atomic bomb during WWII and rose to prominence in the 1980s as a member of the Rogers Commission, which probed the Space Shuttle Challenger accident.

Together with his theoretical physics contributions, Feynman is recognized for establishing the discipline of quantum computing and proposing the concept of nanotechnology.

At the California Institute of Technology, he was the Richard C. Tolman professor of theoretical physics.

Feynman also created a widely used pictorial representation technique for mathematical statements describing the behavior of subatomic particles, known as Feynman diagrams.

During his lifetime, Feynman rose to become one of the world’s most well-known scientists.

He was named the seventh-greatest physicist of all time in a survey of 130 eminent physicists globally conducted by the British publication Physics World in 1999.
