Dent would stick with the team until the end of the 1993 campaign, even after Mike Ditka had been removed as head coach and the Bears had only won one playoff game since their 1988 NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

After spending the 1994 season under contract with the 49ers, Dent earned a second Super Bowl ring, despite missing nearly the whole year due to injury. After returning to Chicago in 1995, injuries would still be a problem for Dent. He would play the so-called designated pass rusher for the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts, respectively, in 1996 and 1997.
