Richard “Ric” J. Parnell an English rock drummer for the band Atomic Rooster died at the age of 70 on May 1 2022. His cause of death has not been disclosed.

Parnell came from a long line of musicians. His grandfather, Russ Carr, was a music hall performer, and his father, Jack Parnell, was a jazz drummer and Associated Television musical director.
Parnell was a member of the short-lived hard rock band Horse in 1970, which released one album before disbanding. Shortly after, he briefly joined the progressive rock band Atomic Rooster but left after only two months. By the end of 1971, he’d been invited back to Atomic Rooster, and stayed long enough to play on the band’s final two albums.

Parnell’s breakthrough came in 1984 when he played Mick Shrimpton in the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. His character was one of a long line of unlucky drummers who all died in freak accidents, his fate being spontaneous combustion.
There is not much information about Parnell’s personal life and there is no way to confirm whether he was married with kids at the time of his death
