René Goscinny Cause of Death: How Did René Goscinny Die?

René Goscinny was a French comic book editor and writer who collaborated with illustrator Albert Uderzo to create the Astérix comic book series.

Goscinny was born in Paris in 1926 to Polish Jewish immigrants. He was raised primarily in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he attended French schools, but he also spent time in the United States. He met Belgian cartoonist Morris there.

After his return to France, they worked for over 20 years on the comic series Lucky Luke during the series’ golden age

How Did René Goscinny Die?

Goscinny died of cardiac arrest on November 5, 1977, at the age of 51, in Paris, during a routine stress test at his doctor’s office.

He was laid to rest in Nice’s Jewish Cemetery. According to his wishes, the majority of his wealth was transferred to the Chief Rabbinate of France.

Goscinny died in Belgium about halfway through writing Asterix which was published in 1979.

Albert Uderzo drew darkened skies and rain into the comic for the rest of the book as a tribute to Goscinny, to mark the point at which Goscinny died.
