Ray Guy was an American professional football punter who played for the National Football League’s Oakland / Los Angeles Raiders (NFL).

Ray Guy was married to Beverly Guy. The couple had two children, Ryan and Amber.

In 1972, the Oakland Raiders selected him with the 23rd overall pick in the 1973 NFL Draft, making him the first pure punter ever drafted in the first round.

He went on to make the Pro Bowl seven times and was named to the First Team All-Pro three times.

Ray Guy is regarded as one of the best punters of all time, having spent 14 seasons with the Raiders. During his career, he pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line 210 times. During Guy’s induction ceremony, he received a great compliment from head coach John Madden.

In 2014, Guy was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Guy, an eight-time NFL All-Pro, is widely regarded as the greatest punter of all time.

Ray Guy passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the age of 72. Guy died after a long illness, according to his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi.
