Andrew Lester was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action later that day. First-degree assault is Missouri’s equivalent of attempted murder.

According to Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson, there is no evidence that Lester or Ralph spoke to one another prior to the shooting.

The prosecutor added that there is no evidence that the teen entered the home, and preliminary evidence shows Lester fired a.32 calibre revolver through a glass door on the teen.

According to the district attorney, there was a “racial component” to the case. If convicted, Lester could face up to life in prison.
