On the dawn of the NFL’s new league year, the Las Vegas Raiders released quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and former Pro Bowl slot receiver Hunter Renfrow, among others, on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

These decisions, orchestrated under the new leadership of general manager Tom Telesco and coach Antonio Pierce, aim to provide the Raiders with additional flexibility in terms of salary cap space.
Garoppolo, who joined the Raiders last March on a lucrative three-year, $72.75 million contract with $33.75 million guaranteed, finds himself released amid challenges.
His impending $11.25 million roster bonus, coupled with a voidable $11.25 million base salary guarantee for the 2024 season, led to his departure, exacerbated by a recent two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.
While he remains free to sign with any team, Garoppolo’s suspension will require him to sit out the first two regular-season games for his new team.

In addition to Garoppolo, the Raiders bid farewell to Hunter Renfrow, quarterback Brian Hoyer, and defensive lineman Jerry Tillery.
Renfrow, a fan favorite, expressed his gratitude to Raider Nation through social media, acknowledging the support received over his five-year tenure with the team.
His heartfelt message underscored the bond he forged with the organization and its passionate fan base, encapsulating the sentiment of “Once a Raider, Always a Raider.”
